Jon Tapper, Co-Founder
Jon has worked in the journalism and media relations fields for more than 20 years, and a large portion of
that has been spent overseas, helping international organizations, non-governmental organizations and private
businesses raise their profile and inform a global audience about their efforts and accomplishments.
Before co-founding Melwood Global, Jon worked with John Boit as a media advisor to the Government of Afghanistan,
helping the country coordinate its communications operations as it moved into its reconstruction phase.
Jon has also worked at the United Nations, both in Geneva and New York, heading the Department of Public
Information's team on the Human Rights Treaty Bodies. He oversaw coverage of the annual Commission on Human
Rights and the Subcommission on the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights, as well as the Economic and Social
Council. Jon also represented the United Nations at the Global Summit on Social Development in Geneva, and the
World Conference against Racism, Racial Discrimination, Xenophobia and Related Intolerance in Durban, South Africa.
Back in the United States, Jon was the Director of Crisis Communications for one of the country's leading
public relations firms. He was also the Communications Director for the Massachusetts Department of Treasury,
and helped his boss, Shannon O'Brien, become the first woman in Massachusetts history to be a major party nominee
for governor.
Jon began his career as a journalist, first in Hartford, Connecticut, and later in Boston, Massachusetts, where
he became the State House Bureau Chief and chief political reporter for a major Boston-area daily newspaper.
Jon is a graduate of Northeastern University, and lives in Boston with his wife, Sandra.
