Examples of Past Experience and Accomplishments:
U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID): Since 2014, Melwood has worked with the Global Development Lab, which focuses on science, technology, innovation and diverse public-private partnerships to find solutions to development problems that are cost-effective, scalable and sustainable. Melwood is producing 27 “media packages”, including identification of stories that best exemplify Lab accomplishments. This work includes interviewing subject matter experts, reviewing reports and other documentation and producing a package of ready-to-go media materials including blogs, articles, press releases, fact sheets and sample social media posts on specific development partners. In March 2015, Melwood was awarded another contract to design and implement a media and public relations campaign for the Lab. Over the next year, the firm will pitch stories to various U.S., international and developing country media outlets highlighting accomplishments of the Lab, raising awareness in the United States and abroad.
Department of Education (ED): Since 2012, Melwood Global has been a primary communications, messaging and social media consultant for the United States Department of Education’s signature effort to assist states across the nation implement the groundbreaking Race to the Top program.
Working with the Department’s Reform Support Network (RSN), Melwood authored the first-ever publication on state use of social media to help communicate around reform efforts, Building Enduring Race to the Top Education Reforms. That effort, and a succession of national webinars which followed, led to hands-on technical assistance work with seven states around communications and social media issues – including Georgia, Colorado, Hawaii, North Carolina and New York. Melwood also led an effort to showcase how states and local were specifically using social media in reforms through a detailed questionnaire, which resulted in the publication, Measurable Success, Growing Adoption, Vast Potential, which helped guide a series of webinars with state and local officials hosted by Melwood’s team.
The Department asked Melwood to join the leadership team of the Stakeholder Engagement & Communications effort of the RSN, helping guide all communications efforts for States conducted by the RSN – which expanded to communications leadership responsibilities within the RSN’s Transitions Work Group of four states working to integrate the different facets of reform as well as helping research and write for the Department’s news feed on Race to the Top successes in states, Progress.
Small Business Administration (SBA): Melwood has served as the agency of record for Interise, which is a primary contractor to the Small Business Administration and is its curriculum partner for the successful Emerging Leaders program to support established small businesses in 36 cities around the nation. As part of its work, Melwood has earned media stories in publications ranging from the BBC and NPR to The Times-Picayune in New Orleans, The Orange County Register, The Chicago Tribune, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution and magazines such as Hawaii Business and Emerging Women.
